intellectually and creatively in order to prepare them to meet the highest demands of the performing arts world.

Musical Theatre

The Musical Theatre Course will culminate in an End of Year Showcase.

Acting

A Musical Theatre performer uses the spoken dialogue and the text of a song to portray the emotive feelings of a character.

Acting through song requires technique and the ability to connect with music and text to portray this to an audience.

Students will receive intensive training in textual interpretation, voice, and movement.

Students will receive group lessons and one to one focused training to enhance their monologue repertoire for further auditions.

Singing

Weekly ensemble singing lessons are fun and rewarding, but also enable students to recognise the dynamics and blending needed to create a balanced choral sound.

Each person has an entirely unique singing voice.  Musical Theatre students will receive solo singing lessons in the Autumn and Spring terms. Individual lessons will aid confidence, development and techniques and help to build repertoires for audition requirements.

All students may opt for additional solo lessons.

All students will receive weekly music theory lessons.

Dance

Musical Theatre Students will all receive compulsory ballet, tap and jazz classes.

Ballet classes are designed to strengthen the core, improve posture and develop fluidity of movement.  Skills developed in Ballet classes will contribute in all areas of movement enabling students to deliver performances with poise and confidence.

Tap classes increase flexibility in hips, knees and ankles, improving cardiovascular conditioning, strength and coordination. Tap is also particularly useful for improved rhythm and timing.

Through exercises created by Jazz practitioners such as Mattox, Fosse and Robbins students will develop their ability to perform complex body isolations, develop musicality and increase the dynamic range of their movement.

Actor training includes a thorough grounding in contemporary and classical texts. Study of theatrical practitioners such as Stanislavski, Artaud and Grotowski enable students to work through standard methodology for acting.

Acting involves a broad range of skills, including a well-developed imagination, emotional facility, physical expressivity, vocal projection, clarity of speech and the ability to interpret drama.

Students will receive group lessons and one to one focused training in classical and contemporary texts to enhance their monologue repertoire for further auditions.

Students will receive Voice lessons to employ dialects, accents and improve vocal performance.

Further lessons in dance, music theory, and ensemble singing also form part of actor training and the core syllabus in order to broaden individual skills.

Optional Classes

Solo dance lessons in a wide range of disciplines  are available to all students outside of the core teaching time.

Solo singing lessons form part of the core Musical Theatre course, however all students may opt for additional lessons outside of the core teaching time.
